ITIL service lifecycle comprises of 5 phases

·         Service Strategy

·         Service Design

·         Service Transition

·         Continual Service Improvement

Service Strategy: In this phase

§  Defines the process on how business outcomes can be achieved with the help of IT

Service Design: In this phase

§  Design services and their supporting systems are aligned with those business outcomes

Service Transition: In this phase

§  Transition the service into operation according to customer or business requirements

Service Operation: In this phase

§  Demonstrate value by operating the service as per customer requirements and achieve desired business outcomes

Continual Service Improvement: In this phase

§  Continually improve services and service management practices throughout all life cycles and deliver value to the customer or business

Service strategy is the axis around which service life cycle rotates. Service Design, Service Transition and Service Operation phases implement strategy. Continual service Improvement helps identifying and prioritizing improvement aspects based on strategic objectives.
