How to export user master and authorization profiles in SAP system?

This article answers following queries:
  • How to export user master and authorization profiles in SAP system?
  • Which tcode is used for user master export in SAP system?
  • Which profile to be used to export user master in SAP system?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SCC8 transaction can be used for export of user master and authorization profiles in SAP system.

Please login to target system and go to SCC8 tcode. SAP_USER profile to be used to export user master and authorizations in SAP system.

So, please select profile as SAP_USER and input the correct target system and target client in which user master needs to be imported later.

After that click on “Schedule as Background Job” pushbutton.

It will result in below screen.

Select the

1) Source client which you would like to export
2) Select background server (optional). If it is not selected, load balancing will happen and client export can happen on any available background server.
3) Please tick "immediately" checkbox (as shown below)
4) Please tick "No Printer Dialog" checkbox (as shown below)

and execute

It will result in below screen asking confirmation to continue.

Please click continue pushbutton to start the export of User Masters.

We should follow above process and export users from all clients that are available in SCC4. User master export may not be required for clients 001 and 066 (as these are standard clients).

Please make note of which Export contains which client’s user data so that you can import them later again (as part of post refresh steps)

Sir,

I am new to basis. Please clear the following doubts.

Suppose we are exporting from quality to dev. So, we need to first log into target system i.e. dev right?

Then in SCC8, do we need to select the dev system and the desired client in the "target system" box?

After scheduling as background job, What do we enter in the "source client"? Please explain according to the scenario I just gave. It'll help me.

Thanks,

Aveek

Hi Aveek, the terms source and target are bit misleading here. So, please follow my example below and try to think in that lines, so that it will be clear..

Generally we take backup of user master during the system refresh. Let us say you need to setup a Dev system copying from Quality system. So, here Dev system is the target system and Quality system is the source system. If you restore data of quality into dev, then user master of dev will be lost as it replaces it with quality system user master. But in real time, we don't want quality user master in dev system. So, before hand, we take backup of dev systems user master. So, you need to login to dev system and export user master using SCC8. In SCC8, in the target system, we need to maintain Dev system details only (as we will import this transport later into Dev system only). After scheduling as background job, we need to enter the source client (means client for which you need backup i.e dev system's client number only... we have to provide). Once you exported user master, those details will be captured in a transport request. After wards, you restore data from quality to dev system(as part of refresh). So, user master of dev system will be overwritten by quality system as data of it got restored in it. Later you can import transport request which contains backup of dev user master into Dev system itself. Then all the users and authorizations of dev will remain same (even after refresh)...

Is it clear ? Please let me know incase of any further doubts.

Sir,

I am so glad you took out time and wrote such a long and perfect explanation to my query. Whatever doubt I had is cleared now and you also told me the purpose of taking such an export. If possible could you please share your email id? I just wanted to be in touch with you so that I could consult you in the future.

Thanks,

Aveek

Hello Prasad,

I need small clarification on above post..

According to above post we will import backup request which we took before refresh,so that same user and authorisation will be same right,,,

so what my question is After restoration of data from quality dev user data will be replaced with those users also...So do we need to do something to Delete those users/ authorisation..Or Nothing to be done Except importing backup..

Thanks in advance..

Hello Durga: can u pls help us by giving the options at hand to extract sap basis data to a flat file / rdbms / non sap system. Do we have any APIs that gives sap basis data for downstream systems to consume. Specially those systems who are not aware of sap basis models
