Types of services and service providers

There are 2 types of services

Internal Service: This type of service is delivered between business units or departments of the same organization

External Service: This type of service is delivered to external customers. Not within the same organization.

Services can be further classified in terms of how they relate to one another and to customers.

There are mainly 3 types of service providers.

Type 1 – Internal service provider: An internal service provider is embedded within the business unit

Type 2 – Shared services unit: An internal service provider that provides shared services to more than one business unit

Type 3 – External service provider: A service provider that provides services to external customers
