Define or explain Functions in Service Management

Functions:  Units of organizations specialized to perform certain type of work and responsible for specific outcomes.

Functions are

·         Self-sufficient entities

·         Defines roles and the associated authority and responsibility

·         Means to structure organizations

·         May be split and performed by multiple departments, teams and groups

·         Leads to specialization and optimization

 

Few examples of functions are

ü  Helpdesk management

ü  Application management

ü  IT operations management

ü  Technical management

 

In simple terms, please note that

Ø  Process is a set of activities

Ø  Function is a set of people

Ø  Role is a set of responsibilities

Ø  Policy is a set of rules
